Digital and Traditional Reading

I believe that there is a huge difference between digital and traditional literacy. Although you have pros and cons for both, I think that traditional reading should always be the way to go. With digital reading, kids will more than likely become distracted with social networking sites and online chatting. I also believe that reading online does not have the same effect as reading a book. Books usually have a more clearer setting, plot, and theme. Digital literacy is usually a faster way for kids to get straight to the main point of a book, however, digital literacy does mean kids won't be lugging heavy ten pound books around everyday. I think that schools are better off using traditional book reading. Staying with traditional reading, I believe that kids will get a better understanding of books instead of getting distracted by what the internet has to offer.

Cell Phones and Families

Honestly, I love my iPhone. I'm not sure how in the world I ever managed without it! I can instantly pull up Facebook, text message my friends, or surf the internet. Although, as much as I love my iPhone, I think that modern cell phones are really getting in the way of how much time we spend with our families. I'm very guilty of sitting at the dinner table pretending to listen to what my family members are saying, when actually I'm looking at Facebook statuses. I believe that even though the modern phones are great, they are ruining families. I think that cell phones should be used strictly for keeping in touch and letting people know where you are and what you are doing. I think that cell phones are distracting us from reality, and the sad part is, hardly anybody realizes it. I think that we should all put the phones down for a couple hours a night and spend time with the people we love the most. No disractions, phone calls, or text messages. Just strictly family time!

My Shibboleth

For awhile tonight, I sat and really thought about what my sibboleth would be. After all the words that I processed, I came up with the right one. I believe that my shibboleth is love. Many people describe love as an emotion, a feeling. I believe that love is what our worlds revolve around. Love can either scar us or it can make us the happiest people alive.

I myself found love at the age of fourteen. And although many people told me, "Jamee, you're crazy to think you actually love a boy at fourteen. You're way too young!," I ended up marrying my first love and high school sweetheart three months ago at eighteen. It wasn't easy to get to the point that my husband and I are in life, and it's still not. I've made many sacrifices, just as he has. While he's in the Army stationed in San Antonio, I'm here at home. I miss him more and more everyday, but because of love, I know I wouldn't want my life to be any other way.
